I'm going to buy some body armour this week. The thing is nowhere near me stocks anything to look at to get a good look or feel for quality. The list so far are these?

Troy Lee Short Sleeve Shirt £88.99
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/troy ... -prod59939
or
Troy Lee Designs BP 5850-HW £79.99
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/troy ... -prod59938

Bluegrass Grizzly D30 £124.99
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/blue ... -prod92777

AlpineStars Com Pro £143.99
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/alpi ... -prod92046

Dainese Ryholite £157.99
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/dain ... prod118449

I'm after something to protect my back and ribs mainly as I already have knee and elbow guards. Whats everyone else using? Has anyone got any of these? Are the more expensive ones worth the extra money?

Thanks

Personally, in the past I have stuck to 661 body armour and found it very effective, however it didn't allow much ventilation, and was rather heavy!

It would be good to know everyone's thoughts, as I will need to invest in some new body armour aswell!

I have used a 661 Pressure suit for years and still would for big rocky DH tracks

I recently picked up an O'Neal STV Tshirt and this covers Chest, Shoulders, Back and Sides.

Decent money and doesn't get too hot compared to the 661.

I was looking at O'Neal but couldn't find any reviews. This is the one I found. I don't want something that will make me sweat, is hard to get off or bulky. Just something that can be hidden but do the job. Have you had many crashes with the STV on? How does it fair durability wise?

i have this one.

The other one you posted has no shoulder protection so that makes it pretty useless in my opinion.

I dropped in on drop 4 of the canyons at danbury, hit a vertically running root and hit the deck from about 5foot up and no problems !

Had the odd little tumble other than that.

You wear it as a base layer so it wicks away sweat, it is tricky to pull off as it is one piece and they come up tight but if you buy a size up from your usual you should find it easier.

I got this http://www.nukeproof.com/products/criti ... our/jacket.
They also do a "vest" version without the sleeves.
Pretty light and ventilation is good but the chest protection could have been made to cover a larger area imo. Sizing is a bit out.

Hey chris i have the long version of the the troy lee and love it. its saved me from some pretty big offs. depends what your using it for as its overkill for genrall riding. anything remotley downhill and you can ride without feeling like robo cop but with some real protection. i can bring it up enfield next time your around so you can size it up if you like.

Cheers dude. I've heard they can be a pain to get on and off. My only concern is the shirt that holds it all together. I crash quite frequently so I'm worried I'll end up tearing it and having to replace it quite quickly.

General riding I don't wear anything. This is only for when I'm doing jumps and drops so not too bothered about looks but would like something not robo cop style haha. Yeah that would be good so I can get an idea of size.

Last Sunday I hit the bottom table top (Danbury) at speed and completely missed the landing. I landed going into the bombhole and had too much speed to correct it. All I remember is Brad laughing at me crippled on the floor. Cuts and bruises everywhere and ripped shoulder that's still swollen. I'm not too fussed about the superficial stuff that'll heal anyway. But the day i got home I had a cold bath and then couldn't walk the whole afternoon which was worrying. Mainly looking for good back and rib protection in something that's durable. I like the shirt styles but not overly confident they're gonna last very long. Found some other styles but they don't offer shoulder protection.

If you crash a lot then hard shell is the way to go.

when you learn to roll get some soft pads

that table is more fun taken slow and going for some height

Can't go wrong with Dainese, I've been using the Race Jacket for years. They're great quality and it's a much better fit than the others I tried.
