In the market for a new stem of the 35mm variety, quite liking the Kore Repute as it will match my Kore bars and has a nice design. Sadly I cant seem to find a 35mm in black in stock anywhere.

Second choice would be the Hope AM/Freeride stem. Its 6g heavier, is available and made in the UK. It is over 30 quid more expensive or a tenner away from being double the price depending on how you look at it.

So what would you do. I can wait patiently for the Kore to re-stock or be a patriot and buy British, albeit at a premium?

Blimey price of those! !!
Not going to pay more for a stem just because it's hope. So much choice don't just buy it because it's made in England

I've got a black El Guapo Corto stem in 35mm length going for £20 if you're interested?

http://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/STEGCO/el-guapo-corto-stem

I'm not sure why the 35mm is £40 new and the other lengths less, can't see how it costs more to make.

Pretty much as new I think but can check for marks etc and post a picture if needed.

Nothing wrong with them, but they have to be competitive and a good product to justify the cost. My experience is you pay a massive premium for something that is exactly the same.
I have an engineering background and would love to see England be back up to the world leader it was, but it shouldn't be at the consumer' s expense.
I hate getting political.

Now a days though we "England" just can't compete on mass produced parts ,Taiwan is the market leader in bike machined parts and for a lot less money than we can produce..
You be surprised how much of "your" bike is made in Taiwan ..!!
But I still think if your prepaired to spend extra money some of our home grown products are far superior.
Basically I want good value for money not cheap crap and at the same time not over priced crap just because of branding..

Just my thoughts.. :geek:
