Hi guys, yeah is that time of the year... Winter... Where your bike wont be clean for the most of the time! So I was wondering how important and how often does you guys clean your bike? I used to clean my every time I came back from riding it, but its getting colder and I'm getting lazy with it, so normally I wash it after 3-5 days... And sometimes I don't even wash it, because I know on the weekends will get dirty again... So what you guys do?

After every ride in winter and after every couple (2-3) in sumer. While the mud might not stop you gear shifting when rideing, once its dried out and gone hard it will drasticly effect the shifting. The mud will also hold the water onto the chain longer allowing for it to rust sooner and locking up the links. And this is before you even talk about being able to lubricate your moving parts...

Get yourself some proper bike washing gear and it it will make your lift much easier without wrecking the bike.

Muc off
Wizard wash
Rhino goo
Duck smart

All of those are good solutions.

Some soft brushes are a good idea.

After every ride is the ideal but not always possible as I can testify. I got back late my last ride and it was dark so I struggled to see what I was doing when it came to washing. I ended up just hosing it down to get the chunks of mud off and then put it away until I could come back to it it a few days later and give it a wash in daylight.

get a cheap cree headlamp. That really helps with nighttime cleaning :)

At a minimum try and get the chain rear der, bb suspension seals and headset areas hosed down - as important is to get them dry afterwards to stop them seizing up. Mud elsewhere isn't really going to do too much harm in the short term.

Regular cleaning really does help you eek more life out of your moving parts.

Don't hate me but
I only clean the chain and re-oil it. Then pick the mud out of the cogs and wipe down front fork legs. Five minutes.

Similar routine before next ride. Tyre pressures, Shock pressures, Spray oil onto chain, shocks and linkages and away I go.................
