I've done that trip and further up to Afan before in the day, does involve getting up at 5, leaving Essex at 6 and getting back close to 10 but its do able (better to split the driving as well). There are over places that are worth riding along the M4 so worth making a weekend of it (forest of dean, afan, cwm carn, brechfa).

It's all doable if you don't mind putting in motorway time, plus we have to drive to get to the riding spots!

Have done Triscombe, FOD, BPW and Afan in a day... and im not a big fan of driving so its deffo doable.

However last time we did BPW we stayed the night before at the Premier Inn http://goo.gl/maps/yZyNT which was really cheap and did a great breakfast.

In our room. They were fine with it as they were clean. Have done a few day trips to FOD. Can get there in 2.5 hours from Epping

I didnt think so for the red and blue routes, the DH was good but obviously i'm not going all that way for that.
Better travelling an hour further to afan.

I forgot to mention that we were going for the Dh tracks and the uplift.... just going there for the marked XC routes probably isnt worth it as VW mentions.

Next trip we will probably pedal up the fire roads for the 8+ DH tracks and explore some of the unmarked trails which get used in the FOD enduro

Also - The new trail at CwmCarn (Cafall ) is excellent and if done with the Twrch is a good day out.

I'm down at FoD at the end of the month to mechanic/help out with the Army development team on the Sunday, was gonna travel down on the Saturday so i could have a ride then stay over. Is it worth it? and are any of you planning to enter or already entered the 661 mini DH there?
