Hi mountainbikers,

I have joined up to find out about your sport as my son who is 13 is really keen. He makes his own stunts in the garden and goes off to the woods to bike. He is an adrenaline junkie, loves steep hills and muddy tracks. He really wants to go to proper biking trail to practice. We live on the coast near Clacton-on-sea. Would anyone be able to give me some tips, advice on how and where I can get him involved as it's about the only thing that interests him and I have no clue at all! Is he too young to take part? And what gear do I really have to consider getting for him?

Thanks so much if you can help!

Colchester bike park is not far from you. Ideal beginning spot.

My kids are 8 and 5, they both love to go mountain biking

I wish when i was younger i had been taken to a BMX club, it would have built so many worth while skills, instead we spent our youth skidding and jumping off doors propped up on wheelie bins!

Hadleigh Park, it was the olympic MTB track in 2012 and this opens end of this month (29th) to the public after a few years of refurbishment , it has a good skills track and other areas to practice on before going out on the trails their. Great cafe area and bike shop (when it gets fully stocked up)

He will Need your help getting their as its in Hadleigh South End.

Suggest the basics he will need are a good helmet, Knee pads and elbow. and some riding gear. most sport places do them and also Decathalon also have a wide range of hear as do Sports Direct.
