Hi

Any tips on the best bike rack to get for full suz bikes. I was looking at the Saris Bones but unsure if it will carry my bike without that top bar adapter jobbie.

Cheers

Liz :)

The bones ones are really good but any rack will also depend on the bike frame your putting onto it. My full sus fits on my Thule tow ball mounted one, just but I do have a cross bar and not a lower one as a woman's specific bike might.

Take your car to halfrauds + your bike and try out some... They do let you....

No probs... The roof mounted ones take away the cross bar issue, but give you another issue, getting the bike up there in the first place

Halfrauds Should be a good bet, just say you need help 

Thule ProRide 591 FTW. I have 2 and they are great. It fits my S Works stumpy FSR so will easily fit the FSR XC no problems. As stated by chatman you will need to get it on the roof so depending on how tall you are and what car you have you have you may need a step. Once up however to roof height securing device is easy to rotate and secure the bike. It's also available at helfrauds.

I have a couple of Thule ProRides. They are great for my hardtail (Trek 6500) and full suss (Trek Scratch Air). I have a Ford SMax and bring a step with me when i carry the bikes :)

Depends on the position of the rear shock on your bike. If the shock is horizontal along the top tube you'll need the bar. If its vertical it might fit or might not.
Ive got a bones and the bar you could borrow depending on when you need it.

My misses has FSR xc and they are not the easyest to fit on to racks.
I had to mount it with the arms under the head tube and the other between the seat post and shock. Just ahad to make sure it was tied on well.

If you have a Saris Bones and a bike like the FSR you can add this: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=39571 (which I think you referred to as the 'top bar adapter jobbie' :) )to allow you to mount the bike securely. Incidentally, I have a Saris Bones but now have an estate that I'm not sure it's compatible with and I just chuck my bike in the boot anyway so I may be selling mine soon.

My frame doesnt fit correctly to the thule 591 rack, have to ziptie it for extra precaution

Hi

Thanks everyone.

I bought an adapter for the top bar and then everywhere was out of stock of Saris Bones. If you do sell yours ECCLES let me know. Is the solo or Bones 2?

I got a rack from Argos in the end but, i cant open my boot when its on so I doubt I will keep it too long.

Just hope it stay put and my bike doesnt end up being dragged up the M1 today!!!

It's a red Bones 3. However, looking on various online places that sell this it may well fit my car (Saris don't seem to have a up to date car fitting guide), will have to try it out. It's in storage at the moment as we're moving house. Don't really want to part with it as it's an excellent carrier and useful when the bike is really muddy.
