OK, so this is a quick question which could turn into a long answer but here goes.

Where is the best place to park, for Broxbourne Woods?

On Google Maps, there are a load of woods there, so can you ride all of it, or where is the best place to head for, to start from??

I've been pretty much centred around Epping since I've been in Waltham Abbey and Epping has been so wet recently I'm wondering if it'll ever dry out. So having heard that Broxbourne drains better than Epping, I thought I'd give it a look as soon as my finger has heald sufficiently. (Yeah sounds whimpy, but I almost cut the top of it off at the first knuckle and I don't want to reopen the wound)

Broxbourne is pretty similar to Epping in the mud scales, but there are some reasonable routes you can take. Below is a route I have done regularly, but it's not possible to do the 11/12 mile loop bit as they have no closed it off to bikes.

I'm looking for a 10-ish mile loop with at least one killer hill as I'm about to start training for Mountain Mayhem (again), so anyone else with any suggestions?
last year I was, shall we say, "less than adequately prepared" for Mayhem and vowed I would never do it again, I did mnage to get a new bike out of it though having convinced my wife that I absolutely needed one afterwards and then they announced a new venue for this year and the promise of a better route has dragged me back in. Hopefully be back on the bike by next weekend, then I need to get out as much as possible and do some XC loops that are similar (in length and ascent).

Best place to park is probably the broxbourne east carpark

broxbourne is probably best if you just explore, its pretty hard to get lost as 1 way or another you'll end up looping back around to somewhere you've been and figure it out pretty quickly
i'd offer to show you around a few of the best bits but wont be back in the area until mid march

as for hill

stick 51.756877,-0.057637 in and id say that is the hardest hill (heading west along that path), you get a up short down then another up and you can easily loop round to do it again)

Do you care if the killer hill is off-road or on road? There's a double killer hill on Park Lane Paradise that I've been using to build up my fitness big time on my way to Broxbourne Woods.

Great Stuff, thanks guys - I'll check it all out as soon as I have some mobility in my finger - yeah, I can't ride my bike cos I've cut my finger - sounds like the softest excuse ever!!, but quite important to be able to pull up the front brake occasionally and at the moment, I can't!

Would prefer a noff-road uphill to be honest because the on road ones, regardless of how steep are generally, well, roads! If it wasn't for the fact that the forest is so wet at the moment, I know of a couple of steep hills on the fire roads near Theydon Bois, I'm looking for something a little bit more technical.

If you want a good all-year-round climb offroad, then the best is probably going along the bridal path half way down W End Road (just after mile 2 on my map) and follow the path round until you get to a t-junction, if you then turn left and go down the hill that follows to the left, you'll get to a good climb that'll require the middle ring.

Broxborne east or west car park are pretty central, also the car park at the Farmers Boy in Brickendon is a good start and end point - they are pretty relaxed as long as you have a cheeky beer afterwards.

Has it rained much this week? I have been in Manchester all week. If broxborne area has been dry for a while a may give it a couple of hour blast on Sunday morning.

Went there 3 weekends ago and it was a waterlogged mess

With it being quite dry it is improving, but it doesn't take much rain to bog it out again.

Was up broxbourne wood last week, was muddy but not as bad as epping, just need to pick your runs.
Should be a lot better at mo as no rain all week.
