After the trip to FoD last Sat i have a question "maybe a daft one".

The grading on the DH runs was two dots (severe) how does this compare to the colour grading of?

GREEN

BLUE

RED

BLACK

I have never ridden any runs quite that and feel despite the 6 offs and a snapped brake lever i did ok ish.

So if the two dots is severe then would that mean that i'm graded as BLACK?? :high5:

Also are there any "official" grading certificates or competency tests/rides you can take?

Judging by the black runs ive done elsewhere I would say they are inbetween red and black, though if you had hit those large drops that would definately become black! But we all pussied out those drops due to the conditions!

I would have put them as red basing it on snowboarding gradings.

black runs usually have less chicken options for obstacles.

By the looks of things FC are introducing the Dot gradings all around the uk at fc trail centres. Chicksands will also be using it :). Hopefully it'll be pretty standard soon

Dots are for downhill runs, harder than black. Fod, cwmcarn and Llandegla all use the dots.

No doubt dots will be used at Hadleigh too ;) ;) ;) :)

No idea what they'll use at hadleigh haha.

The the dots are for bike parks and the other gradings are for single tracks and xc according to the FC website on gradings

What black runs have you done that are more technical than Fod dh?

Be black wont it? anything with a 2ft+ drop is black now? Thats why the new section at bedgebury is black.

Dots !

I dont think there is anything official about the current colour coding system, I note that Black does tend to be used a bit too much in the UK, there arn't many places that really should be labelled as black and the way it gets mentioned all the time with reference to the Hadleigh XC track is not helpful.

Ive ridden black runs in Alps that to be honest most people with a bit of skill could ride but then they really vary, one of my fave videos Ive ever seen here (Chatel)

is labeled as black but the huge gaps (an no chicken runs) mean it is way above most blacks !

The black run at aston, more technical then any of the ones at FoD that I hit anyway, infact even the 423 and dh 3 Where more technical then fod in my opinion, and I think theyre between red and black. The red run at aston was comparabile with the FoD runs but Fod was a bit faster with mroe jumps thrown in.

Cheers, Kellboy. Been meaning to get to Aston for a while, sounds like its fun.

Start ramp > flatlands > ski run with the right option is the best, most techical at Fod imo.

btw, we briefly met at Ukbikeskills on the public jump day after you went for the ladder gap at the end of the pump track. Didnt realise it was you at the time. :)
