Evening all

is anyone interested in taking on the whole south downs way? 98 mile from eastbourne to winchester.
Its not a loop so obviously the start and finish will be 98mile apart, so for this reason at least it will take some planning.
i think its too late to plan and complete this year, although it is possible to ride it all year long as the downs are chalk hills and drain well. but i'd rather do it in decent weather so its enjoyed not endured.
As far as i can gather it's best to split it into 2 days stopping overnight midway, somewhere like steyning.
or if we wait for the long days of may and june next year, perhaps we could do it in one go? Ideally an even number of riders, with a min of 4 would be good.
Does anyone know anyone who has completed it? There's a couple of links below, one for the tourist and the other from bike radar about a looney that did a round trip in a day!

A penny for your thoughts people, good  or bad  .

cheers

Clay.

If you do it, I'd encourage raising some money for Essex Air Ambulance at the same time :)

If my winter training keeps up I could probably do this. Agree on the fundraising idea. Would we be bivvying or staying in a Hostel or B&B or something?

Excellent idea!!
I wouldn't mind doing it in one go but the daylight is shorter and shorter so a 2 day trip makes more sense. For me, as I almost work all Saturdays til 12ish I'll have to do first journey on my own til meet you wherever we decide to stop overnight. Then Sunday all the way with the group. Where do I have to sign up?

Mentioned this on sundays epping ride and there seemed to be some interest. before i look into dates and mid-way overnight stay etc, i really need an idea of numbers, no point saying we'll overnight in steyning if there's no room at the inn.
So give it some consideration and let me know if your up for it. Thinking end of may start of june next year as this will give us long days.

When we get an idea of who fancies it we can decide how we do it, one stop, two stops its all up for discussion.

Yep I'll be interested in this. I would say do one overnight stop, beer pizza then complete the next day.. Is's very doable that way...

Yep definitely interested in doing this, I think it'll be a good challenge. 50 miles each day off road by bike is a looooong way!

Count me in. 1 night stop is fine. My problem is I finish Saturdays work at around 12 midday so I guess you'll have departed 4 or 5 hours before. I don't mind riding on my own and pick you up at the end of the day and SUnday all together.

We can leave a trail of bread crumbs hansel and gretal style for you to follow... Can't say the beer or pizza will be left waiting though....

I'll be doing it for charity. i'll do a just giving page for Little havens hospice, these kids will never grow up to do what we do and take for granted. People can do it for who ever they choose.
Looks to be some interest so far
Will Laser get that bike sorted in time :?: :?: :?:
