No X9 as I have, but may well be the same for both chainsets. I'ts best to keep the casette, chainrings and chain the same as both SRAM and SHIMANO have built technology into them to enable crisper, smoother shifting and with X-Glide from SRAM apparently even under load. Mechs is personal preference for looks and feel, as I don't think performance wise there's that much in it, if set-up properly.

You would probably need a long cage although with SLX that I have on my other bike there is no other option for 10 speed than the SGS which is a long cage anyway.

From what i can gather Sram 2x10 gives you virtually the same gear range as a 3x9, with fewer overlapping gear combinations which is common on a 3 ring set up, less shifting too.

Well i will be interested in hearing how your bike performs with your set up, its the possible spinning out that concerns me.

Should be ok in that respect as I've got a 39-11 big gear, only probably spin out on smooth road descents, off road you have much more to concentrate on.

I've repositioned the front mech as it was a tad high but due to frame clearance and the fact it's a cage for a triple means it looks worse on the compact double than it actually is. The shiftings been helped a bit too, now only a slight rub on the smallest 2 cogs and big chain ring. But given the components the best I'm gonna get I think. You're more than welcome to try it of we see each other on a ride any time.

I can't believe I'm still waiting for my seat post clamp! Just spoke to UKBikestore and they say they'll definitely get something out to me for Wednesday. It'll either be the Salsa I ordered or the new style Hope one.

They've got ltd edition Matt black and gold decals available from 5th March for £299! And I've only just bought my unfinished frame bloody typical. :Lol

I've got SRAM X9 2x10 with 36-21 cassette and I won't be back to 3x9. You lose gears at both ends but for climbing 2x10 system I think is slightly more efficient+ bike is lighter. For downhill...ok, this is mountain biking and lack of big gears is secondary, at least for me. You can find what you've lost in gears at in Sheldon Brown website

Bloody typical, they had a pic of a black and gold frame on their site a while ago I phoned em to ask if they had any? And they said that was a 1 off and didnt tell me they where going to be bringing it out again but at least mine has my own design of decals. Oh well

Edit: Nope i just looked on the On One sit, its just the pic they have put up what they are actually selling is a Matt black frame with Black decals

Here is the frame after Lacquering, it looks more satin even though it was Matt Lacquer, but this is without a flatting down to take that bit of sheen off I may leave it as it is, undecided, as the lacqure came out nice and smooth.

A bit more progress to the build.....Fitting Threadless Headset. Its only taken 3 weeks to arrive was so excited

Now just have to fit it. First get rid of the rubbish bottom race coller the forks came with, done this by prying off with a screw driver



And the new chris king bottom race coller, much more beefier. I smeared some water proof grease around the taper of the head tube to help it slide on (nothing like a bit of lube when trying to fit a shaft into a ring )



Here is my race fitting tool......an axle stand! The tube of the stand is the perfect fit over the shaft and sits perfectly on the race, I can wack it on all 3 sides for a nice straight fit (worth remebering)



And there we have it, a nice snug fit



Next fitting the cups, slap on the good ol grease again

The tool fitted, the idea is to wind the nut at each end in which will force the caps in in theory but it started to wind em in at an angle due to the tool pulling slightly bias to one side.



So another solution was needed, i needed to be able to move the bolt or frame about to get the cup in square, so i done one cup at a time. I locked the bottom nut into the vice so i only had one nut to tighten this gave me a free hand to move the frame or bolt when needed, worked a treat.



and Voila!!



Also remember if there is a name or logo on the cups to line them up before pressing in I did but it turned slightly without me knowing now the word KING is so slightly off centre

And the forks tried in for size. I covered the bearings with waterproof grease prior to forks going in.
