I found the larger gaps on the 28-34-40 to be (not an issue but noticeable) as quick changing than a regular cassette. Bottom half of the cassette is not a problem at all. I think you will always have to have a comprise when trying to stick 11 speed range on a 10 speed cassette. Have a go on mine first if you want

Its worth noting.... that for 140 quid ish you can go full wide range xt 11 speed

worth considering if other components like cassette chain rear mech are close to wearing out

Interesting, did not know it was that cheap already but i do pref sram stuff so a bit more £

Yea big sram fan here too.. I imagine SLX will go 11spd next year which will be hard to resist.

Can you use an XT cassette with SRAM derailleur and SRAM
shifter?

I've decided to give the Shimano 11sp cassette a try. The cost of Shimano stuff compared to SRAM, and the ease of upgrading a 10sp setup to 11sp setup with Shimano makes it a no brainer.
