Evening, took my new bike out for few hours today for some xc. And with the front derailleur in position 1 or 2 my rear dérailleur is slipping when pressed.
I read on a forum that taking a link or two out of the chain can remedy this?
If I'm talking utter sh**e please do say :) , still on the learning curve! any advice gratefully accepted!
Dan.

May be a bit of cable stretch. You can look on YouTube.
There will be a vid on how set it up. It's not hard
Just hard to explain in text.

I’ve got problem for your solution…

Sorry miss read your first bit. Still look for a vid on YouTube.
Your front mec shouldn't affect your rear mec but check all the
Cables are ok you could have a kink somewhere?

It's a new bike, so doubting anything mechanical is faulty, but as mentioned, more than likely just needs re-tuning. Your local bike shop will probably sort it for you, or if not, join one of our rides and I'm sure one of our lads will be able to point you in the right direction... Failing that, if you're local to me, drop it round and ill put it right for ya ;)

Thanks for the advice, it's not a new bike, bought it second hand, wasn't too sure how much I'd still enjoy mtb after many years out of riding man powered! But I wanted a decent base bike to start with rather than a generic mtb that was only for light use and I'd end up replacing, quite into personalising so can always add parts as I break/upgrade them

I will definitely be joining you guys for some rides once I get my fitness and skills to an acceptable level as enjoyed being back out on the bike, so I can pick your brains for upgrades and maintenance advice. Already looking into new forks, current are marzocchi mz race, which after some reading sound like a pretty basic set, and feel overly soft and have no lock out, so I'll be asking for advice on that pretty soon!

Thanks for the offer nicktks may end up taking you up if I can't solve it with some fiddling ;)
