Might manage a couple of laps. Leaders expected to cover nearly 300 miles!

Just registered for 12 hours solo

I am tempted by the 12 hour. But unlike you I just plan on finishing not competing

Haha! You're competing against yourself. Don't worry about the lights but make sure legs are strong. Now have to find long rides and build up endurance. This Christmas I'm going to Sheffield and just found a 78k route with 2222metres climbing

@noel, lighting sponsors for the event will have recharging facilites available. You can also hire lights and spare batteries. More than welcome to borrow mine if you dont mind the weight, old style bottle charger and brick type batteries to feed it.

@Sarpullido, Trails round Hope/ Ladybower / castleton are best mtb trails in the uk imo.
Worth checking out a book, Peak District Mountain Biking - Dark Peak trails, written by Jon Barton.

I noticed the sponsors offered charging facilities but I would like to have a spare in the event that the sponsors run out of plug points or something like that.

I'm an Essex boy in Exile in the Peaks.

Just wanted to give you a bit of advice on your route, I hope you don't mind.

Firstly, and you might know this already, the going is slower in the Peak, so 78km here is equivalent to 150k in Epping.
A 40k ride up here can easily take 4-5 hours depending on the route. Although your one does have a few road sections so you may be quicker but it won't be a three hour sprint.

If you did want to cut it down a bit the section around the lake from 34km to 48km is a boring family cyclepath, skip it by chucking a right at the bottom of the (superfun) Lockerbrook descent heading south to the visitor centre at 48k.

Chris has asked me about going for a ride up here between Christmas & New Year and I tried to put him off with a description of the foul weather, but if he insists or you fancy some company let me know.

150k in Epping is Sarpullido's pre brekfast ride, he'll be cycling up too.



Youll have to do better than a flurry of snow, horizontal winds and constant rain, sounds like autumn there.

Thanks for the advice, Paul. My plan is to leave very early and pack off road lights and plenty of energy food. No worries for the length and the climb. That's what it's best for me. If I'm running late I'll follow your advice. And of course, if someone wants to join me, perfect!

I'm available 26th (whole day) and 27th (early early and shortish til 1 or 2pm). 25th would be fine as well but that's the only day offfor my friend.
Noel, Paul, Chris, how about 26th? Or 27th early start? Anyone?
By the way, nevver ridden in the Peak!

Might be about for the 27th, have to see what Wifey wants me to do.
