Close your eyes and pray. :)

Unlike berms (discussed elsewhere) its hard to think of specific tips apart from you need speed and confidence.

Speed does indeed help you 'float' over roots and rocks.

In Morzine I was taken done some very steep unofficial runs that were completely covered in roots, bear in mind that roots at 90 and 180 degree angles arnt going to do much its only wierd angled ones that can catch you and throw you off.

Perhaps you need a nice steep rooty run to build your confidence.

One thing I do is to unweight my front and put my centre of gravity back somewhat so at least my front wheel is going to hang up on a root and throw me over the handlebars.

Adjust your line so you hit them at 90 deg if you can
Pop ever them if you can
Stay light and let the bike move underneath you. If you start to slide its not an issue
+ the normal stuff - head up, use speed to skim stuff and stay balanced.

ie a wet root in the middle of a flat corner

- normal cornering technique until just before you get to the root.. then lighten the bike underneath you and as soon as you over it get the pressure down again
or maybe
- or get your turn done early so your hitting it close to 90 deg - then you can just charge over it

What technique to use and where will depend on experience, so ride wet roots as much as you can and get comfortable to the bike moving around.

Barrelling through roots at speed is a great buzz

Don't touch the brakes I try to spot the lines where they go flattest to the ground and head for those or use them like a lip if its a small section and try to clear it there is a excellent root run at Epping about 5 mins ride from high beach bit it's a bitch to get back to the top
