On keeping safe, I always have an emergency whistle (from any outdoor shop). So if needed I can signal for help and I can be found quicker.

You can also create an entry in your phone prefixed with ICE (i.e ICE - mr ben), the emergency services recognise this as "In Case of Emergency" and will call the number if needed (in extreme situations)
