My xt crank on my hardtail uses the The cap to pull the arm off. you use an Allen key to wind the cap which pulls the crank arm off the BB. No tools req. Bell me if you need more info

If your bike has this spec

http://www.evanscycles.com/products/spe ... e-ec020001

That says your cranks are m442 octalink - so those cranks might be splined (Park CCP - 22 is for square taper) and thus needs

http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=CCP-44 ... 4&bih=1066

check these 2 threads

Hollowtech ll cranks are bit more involved than the first verion . You could follow http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/article/w ... ets-27046/ and get an all in one tool instead of the 2 separate shimano ones.

You did screw the outer part of the tool all the way in and pinched it tight with an adjustable spanner first didn't you? It's a CCP44 tool you're now using isn't it? I'm pretty sure that if you quoted the correct crank part then you have an external BB as the Crank is Hollowtech II so you'll need park tool BBT-9. You start the removal from the left crank. Follow these instructions: http://www.enduroforkseals.com/sitebuil ... tech2a.pdf

If its any help. my hollowtech ll cranks arms are removed using the crank bolts. i'll video it when i get home and post up, then you can see if its relevent to your cranks. i have one of those tools you have but without the handle, you use an allen key to wind it in but it didn't fit my hollowtech's.

If none of the tools seem to work and you're not re-using the cranks or BB try some BFI and the problem solver (Big Hammer).

You need self extracting crank bolts

These are for square taper:-

And these are for Isis and splined

I wish I'd have known this a couple of years ago. I gave up on trying to remove some pretty good condition 1st Gen XT Cranks from a damaged frame that I couldn't get out!
