FOX RP23
if you look at the range of top spec bikes this shock comes standard on, it will give you an idea of its capabilities.

Id pick up a cheap dhx 5.0 or a vivid if you can - deffo deffo get a coil

the RP23 mentioned is a quality shock but more for XC - there is no need to have pro pedal on a big hit :)

If the shocks too long it won't fit on the shock mounts, too short and you'd muck up geometryl so you need to look at ones with the same length. You also need to be sure about the stroke length too as not all shocks total eye to eye length are equal in stroke either, which is what gives the actual wheel travel.

A decent Fox Vanilla R would be my choice, pretty cheap and then you can get it pushed and have a custom tuned rear Coil for peanuts.

Your bike is this one right

http://www.specialized.com/gb/gb/bc/SBC ... spid=47615

might be worth bookmarking that page

it says ur shock is Fox Vanilla R coil, rebound adjust, 8.5x2.25", rebound adj., S:450,

So that 8.5 inches or 215mm long shock with a 2.25 or 57mm stroke

http://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/907246/ the stroke on that is too long mate

This is an interesting thread http://www.pinkbike.com/forum/listcomme ... adid=98749

it seems you can put a longer stroke shock on there and get more travel! 165 up to 190 - sweet its what the higher specced frames had i think

BOOM

So if I was you id look for a 8.5x2.5 which is 215mm long shock with a 63.5 stroke

This would be perfect

http://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/920858/

as it came from this bike which is the next one up from yours...

http://www.specialized.com/gb/gb/bc/SBC ... spid=47614

As Duckcm18 suggested the van R is a sound choice and a better idea than the dhx as you don't need propedal - get it pushed and its as good as any shock out there.

Absolutely right. I didn't realise the "do it all" bit was just down and not up as well.
