Anyone recomend The best tyres for the Essex winter, and some were to get frame patches to protect cable rub etc

Electric tape cheap 99p shop five rolls different colours or helicopter tape it clear but cost more.

Get the helicopter tape for the frame, a nit pricy but worth it, also able to heat it to mould onto frame shape, Niro the mrs hair dryer she'll love you for it.

As for tyres it's a big big choice out there. I had Kenda john tomac on tidy and never lost grip, well stayed on bike... Panracer tyres are also good along with maxxis

I'm going to stick to Continental Mountain Kings 2 and if it gets really muddy I'll put Bontrager Mud X

im thinking its prob my lack of skill rather than my tyres so guess maybe i should stick with them for now. by the way they are Schwalbe Rapid Rob, very little info on them other than they seem to be a factory fit tyre on new Cubes rather than an off the shelf tyre although when out riding recently ive had a few riders say to me to change them as really only a good Tyre in the dry...

they dont list them on there site, hence why it looks like there a factory fit tyre on new bikes only..

I think what ever tyre you get you want a wide tread patten so the mud falls off easier rather than a tighter tread patten that the mud will stick to making the tyre become like a slick and no grip

Paragon tapes are really cheap. I got a pack from them for my Bullit and still have some small patches left over. All for a tenner inc. p&p. Go through their eBay shop. Well worth it as not cheap stuff!

Bontrager Mud X, if you have tubless rims, run em tubeless!
I wouldn't run anything in the damp and mud that has "Rapid" in the name.
I learnt that the hard way!

I would go for Bontrager Mud X 2.1. very good, i have actually used them on Down hill (Hopton Woods) and they were excellent, muddy as hell, but they cut right through.

And as carl says, just make sure that treads are widely spread, and the actual tire is thin, like say 2.1, which helps cut through the mud, to find some tracktion.

Thanks. those Mud X look good and Evans have them for £25 at the moment which seems good value. there 26x2.0

and JE James has them at £20 but they say Tubeless, can these still run with Tubes?

Yep you can stick a tube in any tubeless tyre. Tubless tyres are just made better as they have to hold air, believe it or not you get loads of pin holes in the sidewall of non tubeless tyres, not a problem until you try to run them tubeless, they just take a bit longer to seal than tubeless ones.
