Sorry, it's me again asking peoples advice on xc mountain bikes.

I've seen a few Specialized Epic's on Ebay at what seem to be good prices...
..what are they like?

I've googled and looked on review sites and opinion seems very mixed.
I'm interested in a lightish bike that will add comfort + speed to my gentle XC riding without bobbing around too much.
(Just to take the sting out of my arse and cushion the bumps)

This seems perfect but is the whole Brain Fade thing a bit of a fad?

Need to make up my mind whether to get new forks + suspension seatpost for the hardtail or commit to another bike.

Thanks,

Jon

Hi Jon,

Have you thougth about a Trek fuel ex8 ? ive got one the 2009 or is it 2010 model... well the one with the 130mm front fork...well i love mine it's been all over Wales and the lakes and done me proud. its got a good spec on it as in parts and was reviewed as best bike in 2009/10..... just wanted to throw that in the mix.

I like my specialized S-works stumpjumper fsr. If I didn't have that I'd also go for the Trek Fuel or Remedy. My spesh is 120 and ideal for xc and a bit more. As you're in Hornchurch you're welcome to see mine as I'm in Hornchurch too. Although it is an XL so not sure if it'll be too big.

I have the Stumpy FSR and my mate just bought the Epic FSR

The brain is brilliant on a XC bike, cant see the sense of it on the Stumpy this year but on the Epic its brilliant and it climbs really well!

I have an epic for sale. They are great all day bikes. used it for the London brighton off road and was perfect.
Can handle a fair bit of abuse but are mainly fast XC bikes.
Need to sell mine ASAP if interested?

Hi Greg, that's really kind of you. My Dad has in fact got an oldish Stumpy FSR so I've ridden one before, albeit that's a bike from around 2004...

It's an Epic that I've seen (and at a good price) so I best not get too confused with other bikes.
I see in the magazines that the Trek Fuel is really highly rated, but I'm trying to keep to a really strict budget.

Thank you all for your help and advice though, and if anyone does have a bike they're looking to sell at around the £600-£700 mark which is XC full sus, then feel free to let me know!

Ta,

Jon
