Nope winter and maybe even summer good all rounder, found the mud-x superb in deep mud but not to clever for mixed cross country rides due to too much drag and very prone to punctures.

just done 11 miles in my local wood with the High rollers and very impressed, no probs in mud/wet and fast as you like with minimum drag, the fat front end inspires confidence...

A lot of it depends on tyre pressure as well as tread to get the best out of a tyre, experiment with different pressures for different ground conditions, rocks, roots, mud gravel etc. But too low a pressure and you could end up with pinch flats.

I don't know if I can get away with 2.4s on my frame, clearance wise....

Nic and Ralph are 2.25 which was a step up from the Specialized 2.0
Want to keep as wide as can get away with I suppose

Did you get 2,4s on. Biggest tyre I can get on rockhopper is 2.35 High rollers (and they come up small compared to other 2.3/2.4)

Haven't changed yet... And been deliberating on what to get.

Was thinking of switching the Nic to the back and buying something for the front as clearance seems less of an issue that way. But trying to decide which to buy... Another Nic, Mud X, Big Betty, Dirty Dan, Mountain King, High Roller..., arrrggggghhhhh

If its a winter/mud tyre your after mudx works and is cheaper than the others you mentioned.

It is indeed as when not too muddy the Nic up front and Ralph on rear works really well for me and is nice and fast.

It's just the last few rides where trails getting so muddy that the rear is all over the place and spinning up too often :(

Ordered a Mud X 2.0 earlier from Pedalon for £23.99 delivered. Not bad :)
Will stick it on the rear and see how it fares :)

I kept the 2.0 Dirty Dan on the rear and took the Dirty Dan off the front and replaced it with a 2.35 (big tyre) Intense freeride 909 so i cant comment how the front wheel would of performed if it had the 2.0 Dirty Dan on but the rear was blinding never lost rear traction or grip 99% of the time, felt very confident with front and rear tyres. Obviously both tyres are no speed kings but for grip in the wet mud they do their job brilliantly

Cheers Dude,

The Nobby Nic I have up front is a 2.25 and seems ok but I'll see how things go when the Mud X 2.0 goes on the rear.

I have been running Panaracer Fire Mud Pro 1.8's previous winters, but unfortunately the rubber used isn't particularly soft so it slides at even the slightest wet root. I've switched to Maxxis Advantage 2.1's for this year and I have to say they've been pretty impressive so far including shedding mud very quickly.
