Fairplay with the d3
i use a 550d so probably about half the weight of a d3 ;)

was in broxbourne the other day shooting a video with a mate, riding with a camping rucksack with tripod, cam and enough food and drink too last the hole day so that didn't have to carry it all again, that was not fun carrying it.

what i do when i wana mix the 2 into 1 ride, is ride the trail with cam in bag, tell mates too wait a minute or 2 before following down, when ride a bit think would look sweet in a pic, slam on brakes, get cam out, quickly setup, take shot, pack up, meet mates at end of trail

My mates are too fast (I'm the new guy to the world of bikes) :( they'd be flying past before I'd even got my camera out, even if I had a 10 minute head start :D

My main camera is a Nikon d3, they weigh a ton, so never together :)

Pfttt, I once lugged a rucksack with a 1D, 120-300, a couple of tripods, some flashes, AND a full 40lb downhill bike up a hill in Wales. Of course when I got to the top I was too tired to ride OR to shoot, I'm just saying it's doable..... kinda

I have the opposite problem

most my mates are too slow, I have time to get there and setup, but then the pics aren't that rewarding as they aren't really foot down cornering and going fast kicking dust up behind them :(

I got the J1 for the following reasons. Loads cheaper, has good built in flash and if I really want to go beyond a compact level I'll use my SLR's. I need to get that adaptor though which will enable me to put my 70-200 on, keep f/2.8 and get 200 x 2.7 focal length, that will be awesome for motor sport!

Thanks Matt. I think what I'll do is get along with my bike to a few events to get to meet some of you guys first and then we can arrange something.

The day I come with big camera gear will be no bike for me, not enough room lol

I already have commitments this weekend and a shoot all day next Saturday, so will try and do Sunday week.

I don't have my motor sport work online right now, but my portrait work can be seen here so you can see I know how to take a photo http://www.nickbuntonphotography.co.uk.

You been to Buckmore Park in Kent at any time for the karting? there is a photographer that covers some of the races but his pictures are pretty boring.
