How gutted would you be to get this reply?

I remember how pissed off i was when i had my bike nicked...but you gotta see the funny side of this.

Yep..me too..But mentioning it had a chip in it is pretty dim..unlike a car there cant be many places to hide it !. Ive had an ID tag put in various bikes but there is only a few places where you can puty them and theyve often fallen out.

If he genuinlly had a traceable tag in the bike why didnt he do the obvious things and track it down ?

How big are these chips? could you not pop one inside you bars or something?

Dunno...but the ID ones are pretty tiny (about tablet size) but Id guess where ever you put them they'd be reasonably easy to find, seatposts, bars, fork tube being obvious places.

Yeah i guess if someones looking they will find it in the end, this is why my bike lives in my bedroom lol

Mine's pushed down to the bottom of the seat tube and has barbs on it to make it very difficult to pull out. There aren't many chips that let you track the bike in real time though as most are just rfid's so are only any use if the bike is found and scanned by the police.

Strange how he nicked the bike...then went back and see the poster, went away typed up his response and then came back... so 3 times at scene of crime....

They make a gps tracker now..but it's about the size of a tube of smarties, uses a pay as you go sms, costs are very small when used...ableto track any movement and location pinpointed as well....

Sounds pretty cool but thats going to be hard to hide, in an ideal world they would be built into the frames by the manufacturers.

Its the size of the battery and a transmitter that will transmit a usefull distance. Make it the size of a button and your battery will last 5 minutes and only transmit a few metres. I suspect matey only had an id chip and tried to blag it.

Yep..Ive had about 3 RFID's..the local police often do roadshow thingies at librarys and stuff and fit them for free. I had bike nicked which had one and didnt seem to help, in another it was in my fork tube and I sold the forks, another one fell off in Morzine somewhere...still might as well get one fitted, keep an eye on local paper (Echo) and they often mention the roadshows.
