First attempt to go tubeless: FAIL

Not sure what went wrong. Tyres are really really tight. After inflating to 25psi went down after 1 hour. Pumped them up again and same problem. Air leaking from bead. Maybe I skipped from minute 8:30 http://www.notubes.com/Movies_Kit_Installation.aspx Never used soapy water. Going to try now.

Cleanes rims with a wet piece of cloth (they're new) Put yellow rim tape. To put tyres I had to use lever for first side of bead. The other side...oh, well, I was really struggling and took me 5-10 minutes. After that I removed a little bit of the opposite side of the valve to add nearly 2 scoops of Stan sealant. Airtight tyre, sealant inside, pump a little bit, agitated tyre, pump again and so several times until around 25psi. Rear tyre took more time to pump (using a small one). Left on the ground horizontal. Found them flattish. Pump them again, found them flat. Left them the whole day until now that I'm trying again

If your getting them up and their not holding pressure, you may not have enough sealant in there? or not got it spread out enough?

I put nearly 2 scoops. Maybe not spreaded enough. Going to pump second tyre and have dinner

Spin them, then lay them horizontally on a bucket or something about 5 mins each side.

You're supposed to hold the wheel in two hands vertically, then shake back and forth with a twisting motion from the wrist then rotate the tyre a bit and repeat until a complete revolution of the tyre has been completed then set on the edge of a bucket and leave for 5 mins, then pick up and repeat the swishing rotating motion and leave on the top of a bucket again this time the other side down.

It's very important to make sure that you have plenty of soapy water on it, I don't really know how or why but the soapier the better and easier it is to seal, use a dustpan brush to apply liberally the side of the tyre and rim, you've completed the sealing process when you no longer see any bubbles from the sidewalls.

Look see if you got any split in tyre I found two.

Ok, seems that not doing the soapy thing was the mistake. Now both wheels resting hjorizontal after brushing with soapy water. Rear one went down to 11 psi during this time. Front one didn't measure it but looked almost same

Looks like is fine now. We'll see after the ride

If your using non tubless tyres, especially conti's they can take upto 3 days to seal as there will be a large amount of pin holes in the sidewalls. you need to put them on their side for 24 hours then turn them over for another 24 as you need to create a dry coating of sealant on the inside.
don't bother with soapy water and instead use some of the sealant on the bead this will help seat then seal the bead to the rim, just like the tyre fitter does to your car tyres.
I've done a few now and never had any issues.

Looks like tubeless is a bit of a faff to sort out?! I've got tubeless ready rims but dunno if it's worth the ag?! Especially as its drying up now and will be swapping tyres a fair bit!

Its easy peasy, but then i have a big compressor (which anyone is willing to come and use) and more than one set of wheels so i'm not swapping between tyres.

One more thing, use vales with removable cores and inject your sealant in via the valve stem after you've seated the beads. i use 65-80 psi the really bed in the rim strip as well as the beads.

Spence and I have had a real faff about today!
2 blown tubes trying to get tyre to seat, then a broken valve trying with a compressor! an that was with a UST tyre, the non UST tyre went up no problem!

Hmmmmm.. Good luck with that.

Think I'm gonna stick with a tube in there and a spare in my bag

seems a lot of grief and i'm not sure its needed round here as the only rock garden is on the olympic course ! I love new technology and normally work at getting it right but this just seems a PITA.
