Nice ride last night, but dropping out early was the right thing for me as I was beginning to fade fast and going down onto the downs would have been great but getting back up would have put me in hospital I reckon! Was good to ride some new spots on my doorstep too, all hail Alan Titchmarch's wood!

Was a shame you had to bail but as you said, the right decision. I was certainly feeling it in my legs by the time we got to Chalkwell. Glad you enjoyed the new routes, we'll have to get out in the daylight and really hit them soon too :)

I was so frustrated not being able to attack anything with my forks in the weird state. I had to try to keep the front wheel always on the deck as even using the lockout switch wasn't changing any behaviour.

And when they all went hammering down Murder Hill, I had to pottle down slowly :x

Need to get them sorted ASAP :x

 this map shows the other footpath entrance to westwood, the path leads to a raised bank that runs the lengh of the woods (we used to jump over it like a table top back in the days when there was a BMX track in the woods and parts of it were used like a quater pipe, its a lot smaller n size now but a good flowing technical but fast route direct through the woods. It also shows the 3 routes into coombe wood

That entry point opposite the college where you say is better and nice and fast, that's the one by the bus-stop isn't it?
We used to go that way but with the mud in the dark tends to be horrible. That's why we have been going in the way we did last night, to do the more technical bit down that slope with the holes and humps, etc :)

With West Wood, a couple of us have used that ridge to go the opposite direction when just combining West Wood with Belfairs, etc. in a loop.

So we'd go in the way we did last night, and the route we took to get to the SouthWest corner, then turn back and take the ridge up to the North West and over to where we came in again..

Must explore the whole ridge one of the times..

Not saying the main entry is better, its boring but is the main gated entrance to the woods, if we'd gone in just pa st where we went in last night its a reasonably straight fast run straight down over the jump

Yeah, that's what I meant... the slip way in by the bus stop was how we used to go when all nice and dry and daylight. you can really fly down there and catch some good air off that jump. Just found it horrible in the dark and wet mud so switched to the technical way in we did last night :)

The it of single track that's nice & smooth & really fast starts off at vicarage hill, instead of crossing Benfleet road to get into the downs turn right onto Benfleet road to top of ease way carry on over down vicarage hill for bout 400 yards there's a entrance on right hand side that leads to wot I think is the fastest smoothest single track around our way it pops out bottom of the glen just after the jump, b better to do in good light
