There's no best xc tyres. It depends on the terrain, your bike, your style of riding, etc...Normally front tyre more grip and less pressure than rear. For the moment I'll stick to Mountain Kings II and for drier conditions I've got the Ralphs. Tons of tyres but I don't know much.

Often tyres come in different compounds, widths...

I agree

Try loads of different tyres mate, swap with friends and try try try.

Cause generally, there is a trade off between rolling resistance and grip.

this becomes especially evident when you consider riding styles. More aggressive needs more grip. Longer XC riders want lower rolling resistance. But again thats just generalizing, beacuse when you chunky like I am, you need to find a tyre with a decent sidewall.

But personally, I am a maxxis fan, because they roll well and grip well and I can run them at 30psi without pinch flats.

BUT generally they wear quick because they have a softer compound.

Picked up a pair of Nobby Nic Evo's for £40 from On One today, I love my Maxxis Advantage, but it's always nice to have options especially with a little more volume. :)
