I've had both shimano and crank bros pedals and both have advantages but I prefer shimano as they feel positive and secure and I've never had issues unclipping even in mud. The one good thing about crank bros is there is more float depending which way round you put the cleats if you have dodgy knees. I found them vague and unclipping a lot when not wanting to. Early ones also had lots of issues with bearings but not sure of their reliability now. Ive never had reliability issues with Shimano pedals.
