I'm on a budget since having the kids but finding myself craving SRAM shifters like on my enduro on my rockhopper is there much between x7 and x9 for the money ?
Is it in my head or my skills that you have to constantly fettle with Shimano to get positive shifting ?
Any advice warmly received Adam

no doubt i'll move something in less than an weeks time and mess it all up again ! LOL

I've never had to tweak my shimano SLX shifters, they've just worked.

X9 or stick with Shimano
but to be fair shifters probably wont make that much difference.

If you changing from Shimano shifters to XT what are your current derailleurs?

It needs a full drivetrain change Shimano lx rear derailer and deore shifters, worn out chain and cassette.
Just the punch the SRAM kit on my enduro is missing. So was planning a full change of kit when it finally dies.

The new x7 sram is pritty much the same as last years x9. the new ones come with a carbon cage. the new x5 is really good kit now too not the plastic crap it was in the past ( what x7 used to be like). the sram has a more positive feel due to the different cable pull to shimano.

I loved my 06 x9 so I will prob go x7 then and save £50-£60. For bars and stem. I'm looking for total drivetrain failure when out with the mrs to help with justification.
