Front mech needs to have a clamp size of 28.6mm, shifters need to be 3 and 9 speed. I'd prefer X9 shifters as I know how they work and have had them on my previous bikes, but am open to suggestions!

Yeah, I just thought I'd check to see if anyone has one lying around, every pound is counting on this build :D

Also, which swing and pull did you go for, for the mech? There seems to be an alarming number of options open

I'm not sure I will give details if it's right when it turns up. I've swaped all from my rockhopper just the mech and cable outers purchased. All I need to do is strip down and adjust the travel on my rebas steep learning curve :)

I just bought an SLX duel pull, shouldn't matter then! Did you buy some wheels off Joel to Chris?

Ah right, did you guys go for the top swing or conventional ones?

Eccles - not a wheelset as such, I bought a rear wheel, and Joel threw in something which apparently used to be a front

Top swing/bottom swing doesn't really matter. That's just about whether the clamp is above or below the swing mechanism. As the frame has a continuous straight seat tube (unlike some full sus bikes), either will work.

Thanks Eccles mine has still not turned up. All my previous bikes have been off the peg and before the kids and me working part time had more money than sense but the feeling of achievement is amazing even on my modest build :)

Yeah I know what you mean. Been tinkering with bikes for about 15 years and worked as a bike mechanic for a short period. Lot of the people on here do their own builds/maintenance so there always someone to turn to for advice! I now only take my bike near a bike shop if it requires some work on it using an expensive tool!

Not looked into it but my avid hoses need a trim. can I cut them and reinsert the ends if I cut them out or do I need new ends.

After five years in the wings I need to get fit and confident to make my 456 happy :) .

My 456 is a frame upgrade in my 456 then I'll keep adding until I'm finished. New wheels will have to be Xmas/bday present

Cheers for the advice about the mech, looks like it needs to be either top or dual pull for the 456.

Still looking for the mech and shifters

The X9 shifters are £49 at merlin at the moment, seems a good deal.
