After going to the uk bike skills training day and suffering easily the worst drenching i have on a bike i suffered a bit of an issue actually gripping the brake levers.
Having seen this mod on a pro bike on a pinkbike report i thought i'd get involved.

I ordered a strip of grip tape destined for a scooter (spit) for about £1.20 off ebay :)

bit of trimming and this is my first attempt.

while i was there i did my X7 shifter too just incase ;)

Thought it might be of interest.

Cant say i've ever had a problem, but interesting idea. Might be one of those things you didnt know you needed.

What grade did you use. I thinking wet n dry maybe better for the damp days.

I assume you dont ride with gloves .?...

Bit like the SDG torm seat designed for extreme wet/muck riding...this started off as a DIY job. > http://www.google.co.uk/products/catalo ... H8Q8wIwAQ#

I think it's an issue with some avid levers, since I moved to the XT single digit ones there's been no point because the end of the lever it a better shape, see here.

I've not seen the need to do it the gear levers though!

I do ride with gloves but they were so ingrained with mud they weren't gripping anything.

i'm not saying its an essential mod and will prob only be useful 5% of the time but i thought i'd put it out there.

we'll see how it goes
