I am planning to do this route in a couple of weeks (http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Le ... erts-Essex). Does anybody knows if I need a permit, someone a while ago mentioned that you need to get a permit to ride a bike in the Lee Valley as apparently you can get stopped. Also has anyone done this route before, any feedback? Thanks

I ride around the park sometimes from work in the afternoon.. never been stopped all the years I've done it???

Gets a bit packed in there sometimes with the dog walkers so watch those when near the lakes... great scenery though...

Thanks Chatman, we are planning to ride in the week so hopefully will be quieter than at week end maybe(?) I am really looking forward to go there as I get a bit bored of riding the same place. Thanks

Never heard of anyone needing a permit to ride around the Lea Valley Park. If you do either there is a serious disregard for the rules or Lea Valley Parks are raking in enough cash from the permits that they could bail out Greece.

The loop around hooks marsh and cheshunt is a national cycle network route (no. 1??), Nursery road used to have gates at both ends but only standard 3 bar design so easy to lob the bike over. If the weathers good, fields weir to dobbs weir will be rammed with walkers and dogs,push chairs etc, as will the hooks marsh bit. Not sure if your route from dobbs weir to Nursery lane is fully accessable. its certainly not to cars
and from rough memmory mates of mine have had to go through locked gates with fishing gear to access the lakes. easy to follow the roads though to get to the same spot.

Just checked the Lea valley website and no mention of permits what so ever
