Ok, if you were building a bike from scratch, what do you do about fitting a new crown race to the new forks?

I know when I upgraded my old forks the old crown race had to come off the old forks and go on the new ones, but if you're building a bike you obviously won't have an old set of forks to take the CR from.

Hope this isnt too stupid a question

To make it even easier buy a new headset that comes with a split crown race as it's just clips on and unclips when taking off.

Hope would be top of my list.

Crown races are easy to fit! Grease up the steerer, wrap a screwdriver up with electrical tape, and break out the hammers

(just remember to put the screwdriver on the lip of the crown race, not the bearing surface!)

Cheers for that. Yeah, I've seen the split ones and they do seem simpler to fit.

Any particular Hope headset you'd recommend?

I was gonna buy one recently, but seem to be about £5 and you can buy a full cheapish headset for £10-£15.

You can get various tools to remove/fit but you cant beat a big old hammer.
