I have just purchased a 29er and wanted to upgrade the forks. Just wondering if I have to get a different size fork for the 29 wheels? or are forks all a standard size? had a look on shop sites but cant seem to see any reference to size????
Any advice would be appreciated.

Yes you need 29er forks as the brace (bit the joins the bottom half of the fork legs together) won't have any clearance on forks for smaller wheels. Something like this http://www.merlincycles.com/bike-shop/f ... -29er.html ?

Wicked, thought it might be the case, but like I said, couldnt see any reference on the sites I looked on. was looking at old clearence stock though so thats probably why. not much 29 bits from 2009 2010 LOL.

Trek marlin with basic suntours right now. mainly for xc and some trail for starters. was looking at 250 but think I might have to push that to 350. seen some rockshox for 350 with 100mm. rebal I think. but the G2 is now causing a headache, LOL. would the lower offset cause much trouble? I don't think I would actually notice much difference for the sake of 5mm???

Your right the choices of G2 forks are small and expensive.

Rockshocks are probably the best allround IMHO, Fox are great but tend to need a little too much love for a very expensive fork.

these were what caught my eye. nearly half price. gonna hold back and guage some opinion. its nice to get a view from someone that is using a different make as well. the offset of yours is a lot closer to the "magic" 51mm as well. food for thought.

I run RS Reba's on my Stumpjumper and they are a competent fork.

Nagmakava I have these on mine rode lovely at 100mm on my rockhopper have adjusted to 120mm internally and keep fettle ing for the sweet spot

The SIDs on evans are the cheapest I have seen (with remote lockout) . can anyone say how big the performance difference would be between the SIDs and the REBAs? the REBAs coming in under 300 would swing it if the performance isnt gonna be an issue. But again, I am probably not expert enough to even notice the difference.

Gotta say, big thanks for all your suggestions and insights. Obviously, I dont wanna splash the cash blind on something like this.
