Hi all,

So I'm seriously considering switching to a 1x9 set up and I'm reasonable confident of what's needed but I just wanted to check a few things on here first with the experts.

I'm currentely using a Shimano M770 crankset (triple), if I strip this down can I use the existing mid gear (32T)? Then is it just a case of getting a chain guide and shorter chainring bolts and away I go? Cheers

You may find a 32 a little small a 34 or 36 would give more pace on the downhills
i run a 34

I've got a 32T upfront, this does give me a nice gear to attempt some uphill climps but generally a bit bigger is the norm, 34T. My bike is a DH bike but in reality I use it all over.

If the bike is really only going to be used for DH then prob 34/35/36 would be better.

You can always get cheap chaimrings on ebay and try different sizes then perhaps splash out on something nice when you are confident what size you need.

Nice one. If you have a spare 34t I could borrow that'll be great.

Jim, you need to ride your bike first LOL
personally, i would suggest keeping it tripple for a while, as where your local rides are your gonna need that granny ring!
