Yup its not whats being said but how its being said, i do believe, in fact i know that its being said to protect the status of the club and because of its push into the limelight because of the olympics the club needs to be seen as whiter than white (even persil white!)

The XC track legacy 'details' IMO have so far been handled very poorly and come across as if its one persons domain behind closed doors and they want it to be something specific that suits them, the reality is it will be a 'generic' place that probably wont manage dominate in any specific genré out right but that wont mean that we cannot make the most of it.

Its all about weighing up the risks surely ?. A recent trip out found one of my friends trip up and bash his head whilst under the influence of a few bevvies but of course no-one would suggests helmets when popping out in the evening for a few drinks but I bet A&E departments are full of head injuries on Friday nights.

Now while I apreciate that random accidents do happen, a gentle ride on a flat trail is generally very very unlikely to result in head injuries, its upto people to weigh up the risks, but Im well aware that danger can come from unexpected places, my recent Morzine trip for example..I was helmeted and padded all the time...my worst injury came from being hit by a car on the first day just outside my brothers chalet..my full face was on my backpack but I had knee, elbow and gloves on which prevented any grazes.

The helmet question did come up recently after the sad death at Stratford although it was pointed out a helmet would of made no difference and the British Cycling association did not support compulsary wearing of helmets.

Im always amazed by people who dont wear gloves..surely the first thing you are going to put down is your palms, but some just dont like them including many pro riders.

Just got myself a colourful new THE One helmet which Im pleased with.

Andy

I'm sure you can but it's all gone 'unofficial' this week.. There were apparently concerns over liability of an 'organised' 'official' ride with riders leading groups, etc..

So it's gone underground with lots of mates just meeting up in Leigh-on-Sea and riding a certain route through certain woods and ending up at a certain bar for a beer afterwards.. Wait a minute, wasn't that what we were doing in the first place.. lol

PS. If you're on Facebook, have a look at the group here.. http://www.facebook.com/groups/256524227766313/
