Think i saw a post on here saying that they have their brake levers the other way round ie rear brake lever on the right hand side. I can see if you buy a set you could change levers round but i need a rear brake only .Is there a simple solution to this or am i just being thick?

Generally a brake lever is sided (left or right) but its not designated front or rear, it just depends on which hose or cable you attach to it, buy the lever for the correct side of the bike. Unless you have some real specialist brakes that do have different amounts of pull for each ??

With Shimano brakes the levers can't be swapped only the hoses can. I bought my XT brakes from Germany and did this. You might be able to flip the levers with other brands though. How about buying the caliper, lever and hose separately, does that still work out cheaper?

The "front brake" will have a 1m hose and a lever that goes on the left side of the bar.

the "rear brake" will have a 1.7m hose and a lever that goes on the right side of the bar.

It is relatively simple to cut back the hoses - they are atleast 20cm too long on the front and similar on the back - and switch them to the oposite lever. they come with the little olive and fitting to allow you to do this.

Youd need to get a front brake and then replacement rear lenght cable or buy the 3 parts seperately as already said
