Yeah I was tempted by Hope but again couldn't justify the extra £40. Was going to use them for the Headset but most of the review say the newer ones have sealing issues.

As I posted in the Superstar pedals thread, my Saint BB is going strong, (although Im now leaving it in my old Commencal frame which Im selling) and bought a new one, only £20 from Ebay.

Although Sealed bearings are indeed sealed this doesnt mean they are waterproof and do get lots of muck/water on or in them as the above pix show.

I dont generally go out in the wet so havnt expereinced too many problems with moving parts, his exception to this is 2/3 days in Morzine it hammered down and this wrecked the bearings in one of my Superstar wheels |(cheap to replace though).

I read a post yesterday that explains that shimanos 'sealed bottom bracket' is merely a term they use its not actually a design feature ! if you pop the plastic outer cover off you can see right through the damn thing ! (helped by the fact there is no grease in it what so ever now LO)

Yeah that's true. The XTR one is much better and does have seals over the whole bearing. Will see how it does over the winter.

I've had a chris king one for about 5 years they are dead easy to service and regrease.. Just screw em out pop the plastic inserts out and lift the split rings then you can clean regrease, add new seals and rings if necessary and voila, just like new.. Sealed BB's IMO are false economy..

The bb90 arrived the next day! Seems pretty good not hugely different in looks but at least its not wobbly on I've side, not ridden it yet.
