I'd second Kona's,.plenty available at cheap prices...and good start if you want longish travel rear.

I'd slightly disagree with Matt in that tapered headtube may not be all that important, plenty of bikes still have standard 1 1/8" and that will prob give you a wider choice of forks, and whilst tabs for chain guides may be preferable, lots of decent guide makers like MRP make bottom bracket style guides or you can get adapters. (Decent 2nd hand MRP's often pop up on Pinkbike).

I agree though that through axle is very desirable and ideally 150mm dia.
