loving the xc on my rockhopper expert but really loving the drops and jumps (although at a slower pace!) at danbury!
so im wanting some advice on first DH ish bike or frame....budget around £500 ish (dont tell the mrs!) prob sometime after xmas!
looking at kona stinky or deluxe 2nd hand of course also orange ...any other advice from learned bods would be great!
im 5'10 and 13 stone so size advice would be great as well!
big ask but have seen lots of great advice offered on here so fingers crossed.

You need to ride it and get a feel for it really, bikes are a very personal thing !

I love my orange its single pivot so no mass linkage stuff with loads of bearings to look after and no chain stay to get chain slap on so all damage to the frame is your doing so if your looking after it the bike stays nice but try a few out I'm possibly popping to Epping tomorrow afternoon if you wanna join me and you can try my orange out

Im looking at getting a fr/dh bike aswell mate, love my zesty but feel its just a bit out of its depth on some of the jumps at places like danbury and chicky.
defo agree with unityjon about trying it out first, if anything just for the right size. i rode harrys voltage, superb bike but even in the size long was way to small for me. was going to buy a canyon torque frx and just go for the size large again but glad i didnt as had a go on a guys i met up warley and it just didnt feel right again. ive now settled on a spec demo, as rode one at danbury as it was perfect, right size and felt great.
nows the best time to buy, have been keeping an eye on pinkbike and all you see now is PRICE DROP. just a waiting game now for the right one to come up.
told you it wouldnt be long before you were looking at dh bikes...good luck mate.

As Keith says now and the next few months there will be some mega bargains coming up. ive seen several bikes recently id have snapped up if i was looking to buy another. Voltages are dropping down in price now and can be had for about 700 and i think you will get a 2010 come up for nearer 600 in the coming months..

im half tempted to buy another bike just to resell in the spring...

I'd rather ride me bike than the Wife..

Bri

Next time we are over Danbury Have a go on my scott Voltage we are the same height albeit you are a few lbs heaver  , But basically the set up will be just right for you, i had 2 full on DH bikes this year which was a bit to much bike for the likes of Danbury ect, So after trying a few scott Voltage`s i reckon they are much more suited for the likes of the riding we are doing over at Danbury, and as you know i got mine pretty cheap on PB, maybe you should start to smuggle the money out now and let mrs think you are just gonna get her a nice xmas present , and when you see the bike you want you wont miss it,as harry said a few people will buy them hang on until next year when the price goes up and sell them.....
