Yep french alps, pretty much the Mecca for DH mountain biking, imagine a whole town overrun with riders and amazing runs from xc to green to black DH.

iv done it be for i build a fit custom bmx i no easier then dh bikes. I also started building a dirt jumper but had to sell the frame and forks so am hoping to start again but got my eyes on my mates p1. The best bit is i have some goodies left over for it :).

But that's not what i would like advise with
I really like kona stinky (what's the best kona stinky coiler dawg etc) I want to build a free-ride/dh bike for Danbury chick-sands etc.

I was thinking about building one as I don't reckon id be able to get the money to go out and buy one in one go so i was going to buy bits buy bits at least that way i no what i got underneath me

but Im not really into specs eg: good wheels gearing forks seats

so would like help I no its going to cost more in the long run but you have to do what you have to do nowadays.

Thank you for reading

As far as groupset, can't recommend Shimano enough. drivetrain is reliable, easy to set up and maintain. Their disk brakes are the best Q/P, great feeling also. Would only upgrade with Hope or Magura (means more cash).
As far as suspensions, Rock Shox has got better in the last years. I ride mainly Manitou's but have to say that on the same price I've had better feelings form Reba's, Sid's and Lyrics.
Can't give you much advice about today's brands, I've always ridden Mavic Crossrides or custom builds on Dt or Xtr's on Dt swiss rims or Shimano's onto Sun rims. The latter I do always recommend.

To be fair many (push) bikes only have rear brake if you're hard and wear your trousers around your knees and dont wash properly.
