There is a meeting to discuss issues and progress for danbury common Freeride area on Sunday.
Meet at the copt hall rd entrance as in the top of the runs for 10:30am to go to the offices for 11am.
The offices are near the cricketers pub.
Will be good to get a representation down there.
I should be attending assuming nothing crops up.

Would have been good to get down there for this but have plans on sunday with the family.

Do we know what the general concesus of the meeting is about?

Its to talk about ways to improve things and keep the local residents happy, not remove things.

i'd suggest getting some authorisation to clear a section at the top to the left of the current run in by the house but behind the treeline so we're not on any ones front garden and behind a wall of vegetation so it keeps the locals happy rather than all congregating outside of the woodland (if you know what i mean ?)

i'm going to try and get to the meeting but not 100% i can make it as yet as i also want to meet the guys that look after the place for us and see if i cant get a little more involved with digging clearing etc

Potential for improvements
setting guidelines for what can and can't happen down there

hopefully heavy signage and maybe a fence to keep dog walkers and dozy pedestrians off the runs

Interesting moment 2 weeks ago when over there, Headed down the run and 2 corners in there was a guy and his dog walking up the trail.. Slammed on the anchors and yelled to all behind me so we all stopped..

Was just about to tear off again and thought I'd ask him if anybody else with him as I thought I had seen something in corner of my eye.. And whadaya know? "Oh yes, my wife is just down there "
Maybe he was trying to bump her off?

Basically.
To keep the place going:
Keep it amongst ourselves.
Don't advertise it.
Please don't litter.
Please don't change the runs.
Help to repair eroding runs would be very helpful.
We mustn't be seen carrying in shovels.
Be discreet.
Don't upset locals.
So we are accepted there as we are if we keep it as it is.

They are unable to put up warning signs or ask people to wear helmets etc as that would infer some level of liability.

The area is a "special site of scientific interest" which means you can't displace or replace any of the habitat, which means digging.

there will be "meetings" posted on the board at the copt hill entrance which will help to maintain the area if you are able to help out.

I was about to ask the same question as puncturo.

Nice to see response above, but does 'repairing' eroded runs not mean using a shovel (or does it mean if you do, keep it discrete ?). There are a few oldish runs that have fallen into disrepair and arnt used any more.

Although don't advertise is a bit odd as many people do recommend visiting there but guess it should be off the radar a bit so it doesnt get hundreds visiting from far and wide (luckily it generally is reasonably quiet even in summer weekends).

Litter is an obvious problem that has been mentioned before and the blame is normally put on youngsters (ie. not people like me..ha) although don't know how fair it is.

I've noticed there are a few small signs dotted about, some telling people that mountain biking takes place and others basically saying don't dig.

Repairing does mean shovel work but discrete and focussed work not just tipping up with a shovel and "fixing" what you like.
