I never liked the idea of this "Mounting lights and / or camera on a helmet", seems a bit lethal to me, what if you fall off; seems to me that it will likely cause further injury upon impact, or another more worrying thought, the element on the helmet will place bad rotation forces on your helmet, which may cause a bad jolt and give a neck injury or breakage.

I saw a video with a guy who had his camera mounted on his helmet, but around by the ear, so on the side, underneath. A bit more safer.

Wouldn't be able to mount a light though.

I have had both mounted on my helmets for years, never had an issue except for low branches that may catch me out.

Cant see it making any odds, if you come off weird enough to hit the top of your head on the floor then your head is still encased in the helmet whether there is a light on top or not, if you think the light might make the impact uncomfortable then yes probably but you could easily come off without a light on the lid and hit your head on a rock so surely there's no difference?.

they do add weight and feel odd for a litte bit but you soon compensate for that.

some things are really not worth worrying about, there's always a "what if?" moment, just ignore them

Apart from being a bit more suceptible to damage I dont think it really matters, Go Pros are pretty tough and I havnt heard of tales of people damaging them in crashes (although I guess other makes may not be as strong), personally I prefer cameras mounted on the chest as I think the view where you can see the handlebars just looks better.

I would imagine having a helmet light would be very helpful for illumination compared to a static handlebar light, in fact just been looking at the 'P7' and 'Fenix' torches for mounting, but I'm still not convinced that if I was to come off or get hit, having something mounted, would surely cause some kind of problem, whether it is the mounted element being smashed in to your head, or if it doesn't break off or doesn't break off quicker enough, and I don't know, for example, if one comes off and rolls the mounted element would stop you from rolling naturally surely that would result in a nasty head jury.

The helmet mounts for the lights i use would simply unclip or break off in that situation.
I think your over thinking things?
