I would like to change the headset, its abit rough, looking to get a complete hope setup.

But not sure which to order? I know I need a 1 1/8 top piece and 1 1/5 bottom piece, but the current one (FSA) is a E spec headset which apparently fits on to a differnt type of fork steerer tube???

After searching all over I cant seem to find any real conclusive info on what I should be looking for. I know I can buy the hope in a mix and match to get all the right bits, but which ones do I need???!!!!

There are lots of different standards including cup heights etc,

You should try this and see if you can get the correct SHIS standard, which will let you pick out the correct headset: http://www.canecreek.com/headset-fit-finder

I found this useful when changing the headset on my Scratch to Hope - think all modern Treks use the 'Tapered/E2' set up:

CRC sell the top and bottom parts separately for c.£28 each:
