The knee pads overlap the shin guards by an inch so the gap is actually also protected.
Obviously without doubt the combined knee and shin guard pads will offer the best protection

I wear the same race face ones and too have chicken legs. They stay in place, hold up well and are very comfortable.
I've worn them all day in the Alps, they were hot but bearable.

Few negatives, I' like it if the shin protection came down further another inch or so, but guess I could just have longer legs.
The stitching holding the d30 stuff in has away on the inside of the left pad after 1st crash but hasn't got any worse.

But overall they are the best pads I've worn.

yeah was prob at first but i wear knee supports now so dont notice it they stay in place well....but id like some that are sleeved i picked mine up for £20.00 or so from the ebay shop!
