Hi Everyone,

I'm Tom and I'm a 20 year old student looking to do some mountain biking over summer :D

I like all-mountain/ trail type stuff, so I'm looking for some good fast technical descents, single tracks etc, possibly looking to get more comfortable with jumps and drops. I don't mind a lot of pedaling and ascending, but I'm not looking to do XC endurance-type fitness stuff... I ride up hills so I can go down them the other side 8-) )

Hopefully I'll be able to afford the new Trek Fuel Ex6 by summer, currently riding an old Trek Fuel 80 with knackered suspension!

I don't have a car, so whilst living in London the only place I've been is Swinley forest because it's within riding distance of a train station (though Swinley does have awesome single-track, they're not very long).

Does anyone want to do some trips there, or trips to anywhere else within riding distance of a train station (I'll start looking for other places, and if anyone has any suggestions that would be great). Or if someone has a car I'd pay my share towards fuel and we can go to Surrey Hills/Epping/Wherever there are sweet sweet trails!

I'll be free mostly during weekends during June, July and August, though I'll probably be able to some riding sooner.

Tom

Hi Tom. I'm in no car club too.......

There are various rides orgainsied where you could cadge a lift maybe, Ive been looking at some places that are near stations, Danbury is a fave with lots here, its about equal distance between Chelmsford or South Woodham Ferrers station, its a nice ride of a few miles from either, especially in the summer (!?), and even better if you pop in a nice country pub on the way, if you go to/from Chelmsford then you can visit Baddow pump track on the way.

Warley has some impressive jumps/drops built by locals, thats quite near Brentwood station.

Very local to me is Hadleigh/Benfleet/Leigh stuff, and of course home of the XC Olympic track, I still believe you can book the day training sessions still at Hadleigh with Tom Dowie, I have the details here somewhere, or there are some nice short runs even if you dont go on the Olympic track, its best to start from Benfleet station and finish at Leigh. (But its a muddy mess at the mo!)

I believe Aston Hill is also not too far from a couple of station, I intend to try that out.

Further afield I plan to visit Morzine/Les Gets come summer time if your interested.

Andy

FYI, you can get to Epping from Chingford Rail station, It's almost just across the road from the station. it's prety boggy at that end of the forest at the moment, but further north I expect it'll be quite hard at the mo due to the cold (unless it rains)

Thanks guys, Danbury looks great! and I'll be sure to try out Epping too.t Aston Hill looks awesome, I'll get some practice in elsewhere beforehand though.

As for Morzine, I'm afraid I won't have the time or the money, otherwise I'd be game! Thanks for help guys

I'm just south of you in Fulham area. That sounds great, I'll definitely give you a shout, I'll be cycling almost every weekend after 7th June, possibly before (depending how exam revision is going 8-| )
