Halfords are looking to take on the big bike specialists such as Wiggle, Evans and CycleSurgery. Maybe they'll finally get some decent kit in:

Small bike shops are going to have to up their gain I think!

I'm not a halfords fan myself. Looking for bike specific sockets for my torque wrench and I was informed that's OTT and had to ask in tool section last time I went

They need to understand techno speak and what bikes actually are and do, as some of them are clueless in anything mtb related... Had to explain to one what a bottom bracket was once... Lol

If it brings in good competition and buying power then that's all good for us punters....

Getting a bike for my Eldest daughter in there was a nightmare, after the sales person told me it was 'The Law' that the bike had to fit perfectly using the foot under the pedal measurement.

Tried to tell me the police could confiscate the bike and fine me up to £700 if the bike didn't fit my child properly.

Didn't have an answer for kids who chose a BMX...

I look forward to seeing what they have to offer, it will solve the problem of guessing the fit online.

they need to review their pricing on some stuff though a colleague was telling me he went in for a puncture repair which they advertise as £6.99 but then told they only replace tubes which costs £13.99 which is a massive rip off, i would have said a replacement tube fitted should only be £6.99!

Yes they're like any shop chain when it comes to servicing (bit like PC World and computers). But round here they're pretty much all I can rely on should I need something in a hurry (do all repairs and stuff myself). CycleUK never have anything in stock and are overpriced and Flitch bikes don't open for many hours at the weekend. Could be handy for trying on clothing and then buying elsewhere though! They did sell my father in law a bike for my eldest daughter that seems to be made of lead, it's a 16" wheel bike and weighs more than mine!

I would have thought facing challenges such as the right brand range as well as shedding the stigma shopping at Halfords has would be their toughest challenge. The prices we pay for gear as opposed to your regular Halfords user are very different, as is the quality and I don't see that they would be able to encourage high end users in to make large purchases.

It sounds to me like they will be embracing all brands not just their own.

I agree about the heavy bikes, my 7yo couldn't lift all but the Carrera Luna, which is actually a great bike for the money compared to Trek and Specialized offerings.

Still the cheapest for GXP bottom brackets though - just picked one up for £15 with the 25% discount. No more clicking under hard pedaling , for a little while. Probably should just buy a hope bb.

I think it's kit as well. 15000 products is a lot of clothing! http://www.bikeradar.com/news/article/h ... ket-37257/

So is Adidas top of the Bike Clothing league... Sports Direct has a good range of bike clothing.. cheap and useful stuff the Karrimore. seems to be break it and buy a new one as its so good value...

So when will Halfrauds embrace the 26" Vs 29'er Vs 650b... debate...
