My 4 yr old boy has out grown his bike he is over 110cm tall. So I'm thinking 20" spesh hot rock any tips on kids first real bike. I'm going to grab one off flea bay and get him some bits to pimp his ride

Ive just got my son a 20" ridgeback mx20 and its excellent i also consided the carrera blast as thats also a good little bike.

Your best bet maybe to PM Surf_EV as he has the N+1 pretty sown up with kiddies bikes and dealing... as a pointer on what best one to get....

found a kids Scott voltage on eBay £50 and forks and frame are disc ready
Maybe some purple disc ready superstar wheels will be needed

I got my eldest a Carrera too, but my biggest recommendation is to just go and try a few models in LBS's before seeing what's available 2nd hand, the bike she had before had a really bad geometry and she couldn't ride it at speed as it was way too twitchy.

He still needs stabilisers so handling is not so important but he is a giant with no balance. He wants a bike like dads and his seatpost is fully extended

A new bike is always a good excuse to ditch the stabilisers, that's worked on 2 of my 3 so far.

He keeps having them off but ends in tears but I might try that. The middle one will be easy he's not so sensitive and little lady is only 6 wks old.
They are bike mad watching me race xc , animal bike tour, bmx shows I just don't want to be too pushy

Eldest was so damn lazy, the only way to get her to learn to ride her bike was to sell the old one and give her a bigger bike that clearly had never come with stabilisers.

Now she's loving it, she's only just 7 and moved onto a 24" wheel and already had her first big accident last week and is already happy to get back on the bike.

Sounds good eldest is 41/2 and had his stabilisers off three times but falls and loses confidence. Being so tall he is gangly Middle boy is just three and is really confident but has a back pedal quite often so will bail without stabilisers

The bike looks the part but gears, shifters and front shock are all pants...

Didn't want to spend hundred on a decent spec 24" bike as s he'll be onto at 26" in no time... but it's hard, and I know he'd love something a little more flash!

Have palmed him off with a BMX for now... Lets see what offers autumn brings!

Have a look at islabikes.I got my 3 year old his first bike from them.They tend to use reasonable quality frames and components and the bikes do have good resale value.They also have buy back scheme when the next size up is needed.

Islabike are great. Can believe no one else does a similar thing. Even the big brands still get it wrong with small bike and put crap break levers on the small hands can't even squeeze. Islabike sell on eBay for pretty much the price they were bought for. I'm on the lookout for one.
