I personally see wheel debate going xc racing/all day old skool riding going 29", endure and all day trail centres 27.5" and dh/freeride 26". Horses for courses

27.5" is the future for 90% of riders off here but I don't see everyone will change over night due to the cost of the bike in the first place (give it 5 years at least me thinks). I rule of thumb would be buy what the people you ride with, that way no one is at a disadvantage/advantage on the ride

When I was at Bedgebury there was 26 and 29 s.
When \I was speaking to the 29 riders they said that the bike was great going up hill but when they hit tyhe tec bit they did not have the control .
26 said that the up hill bit was hard to keep up with 29 but they gained the advantage in the trees.

So my view is 26 for me as I prefer the trees than the hills.


Like bling anything new will get attention and shops etc will have to get new colours types models so as to attract custom just like the car industry.

i found that new bikes are great for the first rides till the crash and scratches happen 9Which is pretty quick for me so a very good second hand one is good value.#
(Someone changing for the bling / tax bikes from companies then selling on for cash.......)

I would go for a good second hand bike if funds are tight and go for the condition then the type of riding and then what you are used to.

Ive ridden all three and would agree with Matt Wragg - its a shame the industry sees fit to over hype 650's. If 26s disappear due to everyone taking in the 650 marketing it will be a sad day.

I think this comment sums up the concerns I have



Give it a few years and they will be trying to convince us that the new 25.9 wheel size which is stronger, more agile and lighter than 650b is the way ahead

Hopefully enough investment will be made by manufactures in all the wheel sizes to a allow customers to make up their own minds, for the forseable future.

How about 30 inch forks etc and adaptable for all sizes and fit the wheel you fancy 26 front 29 rear
26 front 29 rear comination of them all .
I have seen bikes that have 24 rear and 26 front even bike with 4inche tyres..............

Trek tried the 69er - 26" out back 29 up front - didn't work! the reason 27.5 is going to take off is simple, all those attracted to new will buy and all those who have to buy a new bike because it's that time will buy one because quite simply they won't have the choice... and in regards to the bedgebury comments thats what 27.5 is marketed as the perfect in between size quicker up than 26 quicker down than 29... But I took the Kona Satori over to Bedgebury and Swinley and have to say at no point did I feel hindered on any descent and the quickest guy there on the day was on a hardtail 29er so all comes down to the pilot...

Make you dead right if you have the skills then your the winner.

But what beats the bike and the rider is the tyres .
I have beat more people due to punctures (non finishers ) then any other area.
So 26 -29 its the tyres you put on them.
