OK here's a quick break down of the SolarStorm X2, apologies for the many pics.
Lamp unit weights 91g:
It's pretty small!
It's the usual clicky-clicky button on the rear, with 4 modes starting off on low, then med, then high. Hold for a couple of seconds for a slow strobe:
Screw connector, works with the standard battery connector and has a O ring so keeps out moisture:
A quick look inside to check build quality: Seems fairly well sealed against the elements:
Soldering, not the worst I've seen and no real risk of any shorting anywhere:
Close up of the Cree die. Like a lot of these Chinese lights, it's lacking any sort of thermal compound between the die and the body so if you were to have overheating problems I would look at putting some thermal paste here:
Now to the 8 cell 8.4V 12000mAh battery (this is not the battery you get with the complete light set, that's a 4 cell one):
Weights in at 359g in the pouch:
and 339g without:
The standard connector:
After running the light pretty much on full for 15 minutes or so after a full charge at work the output voltage was 8.16V, so pretty good for a cheap Chinese battery, no idea what brand the cells are and haven't had a chance to test the full run time:
Hope that's some helpful info for people. Sorry no bean shots or light output readings as I don't own an SLR or a light meter!
