Got my new lights today, ordered 2 sets CREE XML-T6 1800Lm.
From ebay cost £36.98 inc P & P.
Image

2 sets so I have spare battery & lamp unit, plus charger & head band.
Will modifiy 1 head band to fit my skid lid.

I know how good this light is as HVACmat had 1 on last weeks Danbury night ride.
Won't be able to test it next week as I'm on call for work all week.

See you soon on trail
Trev.

Cool.

Yep, I currently run one on bars and one on lid.
I removed the elastic straps from one of the head straps so I was left with the 'plate' with the mount on. I then stuck this to the top of my lid with thick double sided pads (number plate ones) and made secure with a couple of thin zip-ties.

OK here's a quick break down of the SolarStorm X2, apologies for the many pics.

Lamp unit weights 91g:

It's pretty small!

Image

It's the usual clicky-clicky button on the rear, with 4 modes starting off on low, then med, then high. Hold for a couple of seconds for a slow strobe:
Image

Screw connector, works with the standard battery connector and has a O ring so keeps out moisture:
Image

A quick look inside to check build quality: Seems fairly well sealed against the elements:
Image

Soldering, not the worst I've seen and no real risk of any shorting anywhere:
Image

Image

Close up of the Cree die. Like a lot of these Chinese lights, it's lacking any sort of thermal compound between the die and the body so if you were to have overheating problems I would look at putting some thermal paste here:
Image

Image

Now to the 8 cell 8.4V 12000mAh battery (this is not the battery you get with the complete light set, that's a 4 cell one):

Weights in at 359g in the pouch:
Image

and 339g without:
Image

The standard connector:
Image

After running the light pretty much on full for 15 minutes or so after a full charge at work the output voltage was 8.16V, so pretty good for a cheap Chinese battery, no idea what brand the cells are and haven't had a chance to test the full run time:
Image

Hope that's some helpful info for people. Sorry no bean shots or light output readings as I don't own an SLR or a light meter!

I know i have posted on here before with the lights i have been running but its good to see they have now both been featured and tested in MBUK againest other lights and have come out near the top. Normaly ride with MattHVAC who has two cheap chinease lights, while they give the same sort of amount of light as mine they don't offer a wide enough spread. It is defferntly worth haveing a proper broad beamed light on the bars and a spot light on your head for a good set up.

A lot of the chinese lights can have a simple alteration done to make them more broad beamed. Just do a search for something like 'cree wide beam reflector' on fleabay to see the orange peel reflectors. You'll need to measure the depth and diameter of the current reflector your light uses and match them up.
