Hi all,
Question and please excuse the terms.
My stem ( i think ) that goes handle bars to fork on Camber is long.
I am thinking of shortening it by putting on a stem from my big hit stubby shinny spare.
What will the effect be if I do this in the steering .
I was trying to stop streching forward and getting a bit more upright (have a large frame )
If someone can explain the principles of long / short stems might be useful .

Makes the handling a bit quicker for technical terrain
The shortened reach as you know will make you sit up which will help with looking and jumping

That was what I was thinking.
Not blaming the tools for the not so good finishing ,but if it is going to help it may be worth experimenting on.
Endro are tec races in many ways and antthing that helps me not hugging rocks ,trees ,ruts and swamps is got to be good .
Also riding a long time need to sit up now and again to recover.

The two most important things on a bike,
1) Contact points (saddle position + height, Grips and bar position)
2) Contact with the floor. (Wheels + Tyres)

Get those two things right the worlds your lobster.

They don't cost a lot to mess about with
what width are your bars?

I will check the spec , its standard , I have a spare handle bar from the big hit but the would be to wide -diff hug trees with them.
original stem is 31,8mm 4bolt specialised XC alloy.
Low rise 6061 -680mm 8degree back sweep 6 degree up

As i use it for the Endruos I dont want to go wide .
Maybe the angles could be improved . But it is experimenting without cost that is the problem .I too often buy the bits that seem like a good idea at the time but in practise do not work.

On my XC bikes i run 700mm bars on 70mm stem
the Enduro has 711 on a 70mm stem
If you go to chelmer cycles they will lend you a few stems to try before you buy!!!

Have to take me bike there and have a look.
Specialised has opened a store there thats were I picked up a pair race shoes for nought.... (120 pounds worth )
and a tea shirt.

Hi again ,
My bike is getting on and have done the power side of it i.e gears and crank etc.
Now looking to do saddle and bars etc.

Brakes work well and I have changes the pads - surposed I will have to bled the brakes next .
I love the bike but still thinking of getting a carbon up grade . working on it for Xmas present .........
(Still believe in Father Christmas and miracles happening....
